Description:
Long before a GE Uboat wore the number MILW #383, this Alco-Schenectady built 2-8-2 heavy Mikado had the honor. Built in June of 1919 originally as CM&StP #8682, it was renumbered MILW #383 in 1938. Officially retired in November of 1954, it was still seen here 6 months later sitting in the scrap line awaiting its turn with the scrapper's torch. No photographer was listed for the photo. Specs - L3 Class, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 27x32" cylinders, engine weight of 320,000 lb, tractive effort of 62,949 lb.
