PM 2-8-4 #1232 - Pere Marquette
Description:
Wirtten off the C&O roster in January of 1958, the loco sat in the lined-out scrap line until 1961 when it was finally torched. Built by Lima in May of 1944 as PM 2-8-4 Berkshire #1232, it served the PM until being absorbed into the C&O roster. The loco was never renumbered however. Final specs - 70" drivers (upgraded from 69" in 1947), impressive 245 psi boiler pressure, 26x34" cylinders, engine weight of 442,500 lb, tractive effort of 69,350 lb..No photographer was listed for the photo.

Pere Marquette Scrap Line at New Buffalo, Michigan
Description:
Truly a sad photo showing the massive scrap line at the former Pere Marquette yard in New Buffalo, MI. The unknown photographer listed the following PM locos in the line - 1238, 1229, 1231, 1228, 1232, and 1237. They were all written off the C&O roster (PM merged into the C&O in 1947 but these were not renumbered) but sat here until the scrapper's torch was ordered in 1961. What a massive pile of steel this line would have made! No photographer was listed for the photo.
