This may be the beginning of the end for the assembled former PRR GG1's as it looks like a dead/scrap line at the Rutherford yard.. Conrail had inherited 119 surviving GG1's from the failed Penn Central roster. Conrail used 68 of them for freight service while Amtrak picked up about 30 to use in passenger service. CR freight usage ended in 1980 and Amtrak passenger usage ended around the same time, 1980. This is a Frank Spieles photo which is now in my colleciton. |
