Here is the third of six successive original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken just East of the Coaling Tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. Here is a fireman's-side view of Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6700, an M-1B (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an M-1A during March of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in March of 1944, and retired in June of 1957 after 27 years of faithful service. This is the very first M-1A. |
