PRR Juniata E&M Turntable, 1966 |
Description: |
E&M Yard. Here is an original photo that I took at the Juniata E&M Shop Yard in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in April of 1966. Visible in the foreground is the trusty E&M turntable ~ witness to steam and diesels alike. Beyond the turntable are the eastern side of the E&M Shop, some of the tracks from the Shop to the turntable, as well as five locomotives built by several different manufacturers ~ including Baldwin, ALCo, GM-EMD, and GE. Two Pennsylvania Railroad engines are identifiable: #2428 and #2649. #2428 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in February of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2649 is a GF-25 built by General Electric in November of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower; it was rebuilt/repaired and went on to serve with both Penn Central and Conrail. |
