Album Info:Here are seven original photos that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, 2 May 1965. The intent is to depict what it was like, railroad wise, on a typical Sunday afternoon in Altoona during May of 1965. These color slides are presented in the order that I took them.

Description:  Sunday. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 2 May 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6307 and #6304. Both are AF-27's built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower each. They have just passed under the 24th Street Bridge on their way to East Altoona after making a helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back. Wave to the Engineman! Partially visible at the right is SLOPE Tower.

Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6309, #5861, #5860-B, and #5838. #6309 is an AF-27 built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower; it's the "helper" engine in this context. #5861 and #5860-B are EP-20's built by GM-EMD in February of 1948 and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #5838 is an EP-22 built by GM-EMD in February of 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. They're passing SLOPE Tower with a 13-car passenger train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Pittsburgh and points West. Wave to the Engineman!

Description:  Sunday. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 2 May 1965. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5764, #5704, and #5894. All are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5764 was built in November of 1952, #5704 in September of 1952, and #5894 in March of 1951. They're passing ALTO Tower with an 18-car eastbound passenger train and will soon stop at the Altoona Station ~ both to change engine and train crews, and to discharge and board new passengers. Description:  Sunday. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 2 May 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2229, #2501, and #2529. #2229 is an EF-22 built by GM-EMD in April of 1963 and rated at 2,200 horsepower. #2501 and #2529 are GF-25's built by General Electric and rated at 2,500 horsepower each; #2501 was built in August of 1962, but #2529 was built in September of 1964. They're pulling a 45-car manifest freight train through the Passenger Station and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. The cabin car is N-8 #478159. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2402, #2513, and #2520. #2402 is an AF-24 built by the American Locomotive Company in September of 1962 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. #2513 and #2520 are GF-25's built by General Electric in October of 1962 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. They're pulling a 26-car iron-ore train up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and the steel mills of Western Pennsylvania. Visible in the near distance is position-light signal #2360. Photo taken just East of the Altoona Passenger Station.

Description:  Sunday. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 2 May 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #7026, #9660, and #9819. All were built by GM-EMD. #7026 is an EFS-17M built in November of 1955 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. #9660 and #9819 are EF-15A's rated at 1,500 horsepower each; #9660 was built in March of 1950, but #9819 was built in May of 1951. They're pulling a 128-car westbound mixed-cargo freight train with N-8 cabin car #478039, plus pusher engines #8613 and #8614. This train is "sandwiched" in between two moving trains: an eastbound mineral train at the right, and a 129-car westbound mixed-cargo freight train at the left. Visible in the distance is a portion of the 4th Street Footbridge.
